CareYaya - An affordable home care solution inspired by a family’s own needs

CareYaya is a digital care platform created to make non-medical home care for older adults more accessible, affordable and dependable. It connects families with college students studying nursing, pre-med, psychology and other health-related fields, offering a reliable pool of motivated caregivers who provide companionship, daily living assistance and in-home support.

Through the platform, families can book student-caregivers on demand using a simple online interface. All students undergo interviews and background checks before joining, and are matched with families based on their availability, interests and experience, ensuring a close fit between caregiver and care recipient. This model delivers care at significantly lower cost than traditional home-care agencies, while maintaining strong standards of safety and transparency.

The idea for CareYaya emerged directly from the founder’s lived experience as a family caregiver. While supporting loved ones with serious health challenges, he struggled to find trustworthy and affordable care—an issue that also placed emotional and financial strain on his family. These experiences motivated him to develop a care system that responds to the needs he personally encountered: the lack of access, the high costs, the inconsistency of traditional agencies, and the absence of human connection in much of the home-care industry.

Since its launch in 2021, CareYaya has expanded rapidly across multiple U.S. states, completing thousands of care sessions and building one of the largest student-caregiver networks in the country. The platform continues to evolve technologically, incorporating improved matching algorithms and developing AI-based tools designed to support families and caregivers more effectively.

At its core, CareYaya aims to reduce the burdens placed on family caregivers, provide older adults with dignified and dependable support at home, and create meaningful intergenerational relationships that prepare future healthcare professionals for real-world care environments.
