Parents create Mejo App to simplify managing their son’s rare disease journey

About the solution

Mejo is a mobile app designed to help caregivers manage medical records for their loved ones, particularly children with rare diseases. It was created with the aim of simplifying the overwhelming process of handling health-related information, which can often be scattered across various platforms and providers.
The app allows caregivers to organize critical medical data, such as medications, surgeries, and other health details, in one easy-to-access place. The app also includes personal details, such as their preferences, likes, and even their favorite songs. This human-centered approach ensures that caregivers can see the full picture of the person they care for, from medical needs to personal preferences, helping them advocate more effectively for the care their loved ones deserve.
For parents of children with rare diseases, the app eliminates the repetitive task of filling out the same forms for multiple specialists. By centralizing important medical information in a comprehensive database, Mejo streamlines the healthcare journey, offering peace of mind and support. The app empowers caregivers, giving them the tools they need to keep everything organized and reduce the stress that often comes with managing complex health conditions.
The need for such a solution was born out of personal experience. Ryan Sheedy and Ashley Gibbs faced this struggle firsthand as parents of a child with a rare genetic disorder, Costello syndrome. Their journey through the healthcare system, filled with multiple specialists, frequent hospital visits, and an overwhelming amount of paperwork, led them to recognize the necessity of a tool that could simplify this process for all families dealing with similar challenges. Together with Bret Koncak founded Mejo in 2020 as a way to provide a more organized, intuitive, and compassionate solution for those managing rare and complex medical conditions.
