Website to help disabled people go out

Shared by Ana Duarte on 2015-11-12 17:26

About the solution

“We thought that there must be thousands of people who have the same issues that we do so we decided to create a website to help others. Euan’s Guide is a friendly, honest & empowering alternative to hours of web searching and phone calls and most importantly remove the ‘fear of the unknown’ when visiting a venue for the first time”, Euan explained.

Despite being in a wheelchair, Euan wants to go out to bars, restaurants, hotels, cinemas, music festivals, sports grounds etc. But he found it hard to know which places had truly accessbile venues.

"A generic disabled access badge doesn't always tell the whole story" says Euan. "Our website can give you confidence that someone in your situation has been there and can make a recommendation. The website makes it easier to enjoy experiences that many people might take for granted. It could be as simple as meeting a friend for a cup of coffee but you need to know which places are suitable."

This innovator hopes his website can help erase the fear of the unknown for disabled people when they want to go somewhere. "For me, a site like Euan's Guide will remove the fear of the unknown. If I can read some reviews from people who have similar accessible issues, I'm much more likely to trust them than a venue website which just displays a disabled badge. Euan's Guide is designed to provide an accurate preview of the venue and should remove the element of surprise when you arrive somewhere. It is really important to me that barriers such as these are removed so I can get on with leading my life".

The website is also open for users, who can write reviews about the places they had been to. "We've made a start, but we need your help to achieve this. Please help us by reviewing your favourite places, listing your venue or simply telling people about us", Euan said.
