About the solution
Made of wood and without impact-absorbing systems, SACH does not have a fully ergonomic design and it is not very comfortable.
People with sufficient financial resources can buy a prosthetic limb made of carbon fiber, with good functionality and ergonomics, imported from Germany, United States or Iceland. This solution carries a cost of 1,300€, which departs it from the majority of people affected by amputation in the region where he lives.
To help especially those people with fewer resources, Strasburg has created an innovative prosthesis called Revo Foot that already improved his uncle’s life and could transform lives of a million Brazilians who are waiting for a prosthesis funded by Brazilian government.
The prosthetic foot designed by Strasburg, Revo Foot, is constructed with standard components and recycled PET plastic. Using cheap and affordable materials, Strasburg hopes that "the poorest people who want something better than a SACH" regain their autonomy and have a "normal life."
The first prototype created by Strasburg was a prosthetic foot made by a sheet from this type of recycled plastic that has undergone a process of heat molding. Once done the piece, other elements such as couplers and standard metal connectors, which can be found in the market , were added. Starsburg explains that it was designed to be a "multiaxial prosthesis", which means "it may respond to movements in all directions."
During the last five years Strasburg and his partner Eduardo Trierweiler - co-inventor of the prosthetic device – submitted the device to several compression tests and several studies on the use of accelerometry and platform strength.
Strasburg explained that tests showed "a smooth and linear response to compression, which means that the prosthesis is anatomically similar to the human foot when walking." In the tests with accelerometers, he found that the Revo Foot had "twice more dynamic response than other prostheses that are on the market, offering a better ability to convert the impact on impulse."
