High School student develops leading website for coronavirus information

Avi Schiffman, a junior at Mercer Island High School, was concern about the spread od misinformation during the Covid-19 pandemic. So, in January 2020, at the start of the Covid-19 outbreak in China, he started developing a website that gathered updated and accurate information about the coronavirus. His goal was “ to make the site the best place for information about the coronavirus, with multiple methods of getting data,”

The website – nCoV2019.live – shows worldwide statistics such as confirmed cases, total deaths, number of patients recovered and information by country. The information is updated every 10 minutes and gathers data from many different official sources like the WHO or the CDC.

Since launch, the website has been accessed by more than 100 million visitor. “I wanted to just make the data easily accessible, but I never thought it would end up being this big,” said Schiffman. He has been coding since he was seven years old, when he started learning by himself through Youtube videos, and has since developed more than 30 websites.
