About the solution
According to the NHS, 1 in 2 people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. Unfortunately, Fabian Bolin, a 32-year-old co-founder of "War on cancer" was one of those people, being diagnosed with leukemia in 2015. This was long before he would partner up with Sebastian Hermelin, his long-time friend, to develop this app, but was the stepping stone for it!
When in 2015 Fabian discovered he had cancer, all the usual feelings of uneasiness, discomfort about the future, and fear of the unknown came crushing in, and he spiraled into thoughts of "why me?" and "if I'm so young, how could this be?". He then entered into a pretty big depressive state, which began to turn around after a simple post on Facebook.
From his hospital bed, Fabian uploaded a post to Facebook which went viral, attracting 13,000 shares within the first 24 hours. Enthused by this response, he went on to blog about his experiences of battling cancer and, through doing this, realized the positive effects that storytelling had on his own mental health and the impact that a digital platform that allows people from all over the world to share their own experiences, would have.
This is when the "War on cancer" came to life! This app helps people affected by cancer to engage, learn, and thrive. From the very own experiences of fellow patients that are or have been fighting cancer, they can foster and sustain a community that will help achieve an improvement in the mental health of everyone affected by cancer. Their aim is to unite people all over the world with others going through similar experiences to ensure that no one feels as though they have to fight their illness alone.
