About the solution
Because they all are long-distance caregivers of their mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, they had to invent a product to keep her monitored.
“Nothing can compare with how blessed you feel as a caregiver when you give a sense of belonging and self-worth to someone you love. That’s what drove us to develop AttentiveCare, and that’s what we hope to pass on to others”, Ken explained.
With a background in information system and communications technology, they developed the device and founded their own company in 2003.
This system offers: Regular videoconferencing or observation mode videoconferencing , reminders, slideshow features and several data logging features. AttentiveCare is designed to meet the needs of care recipients by allowing them to function more independently and stay connected to family whether they reside at home, in a retirement community or at an assisted living center.
“With the technology, we were able to maintain our mother's quality of life and independence up until the last sixty days of her life. She regrettably developed cancer and passed away in July 2004. If it were not for the other health problems, our intervention strategy was to gradually increase the professional onsite support as needed and give the professional in-home care provider Internet access to our mother's system”, the inventor expressed.
An AttentiveCare program license costs about $200. Customers pay a monthly subscription fee of about $60.
