About the solution
To help in the fight against COVID-19, Medtronic is issuing a special permissive license, sharing the full design specifications, product manuals, design documents and software code for its Puritan Bennett (PB) 560 portable ventilator hardware.
The PB 560 is compact and lightweight and can be easily moved around. The design was originally introduced in 2010, it is qualified and safe for medical use.
Medtronic’s aim is to help spin up new production lines at existing manufactures around the world, without any costs or fees owed to the company. This initiative will provide the resources necessary for inventors, startups, and academic institutions looking to spin up production in short order and create their own adapted designs.
“We are sharing the design specifications for the [PB 560] to enable participants across industries to evaluate options for rapid ventilator manufacturing to help doctors and patients dealing with COVID-19,” said John Jordan, External Communications Director at the Minimally Invasive Therapies Group at Medtronic.
