Patient Innovation Bootcamp (PatientEntrepreneur) to be sponsored by EIT HEALTH

We are thrilled to announce that EIT Health has decided to sponsor the Patient Innovation Bootcamp (PatientEntrepreneur). EIT Health is a network of best-in-class health innovators backed by the European Union.

The PatientEntrepreneur Bootcamp is an accelerating program for patients and caregivers to implement and scale up the innovative solutions they developed to help them cope with a need imposed by their health condition.

Patient Innovation Bootcamp

The bootcamp will be promoted by a number of EIT Health partners, including three prestigious universities (Copenhagen Business School, University of Copenhagen, IESE Business School), Biocat (cluster organisation for life sciences in Catalonia), SmiLe (an incubator from Lund, Sweden) and Glintt (a digital health company from Portugal). The promoting consortium also includes Walk with Path (a company created by a caregiver) and the Patient Innovation Association.

Patient Innovation Bootcamp Partners

This will be the first of a series of bootcamps to help patients and caregivers to implement and scale up the innovative solutions they developed for themselves.

We are grateful for the support from EIT Health to the PatientEntrepreneur Bootcamp.

Eduardo - another Patient Innovation “Offer your hand” hero

The project “Offer your hand” was one of the winners of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia Challenge and the Fidelidade Comunidade prizes that reward social inclusion and healthcare promotion projects. This award allows us to contribute to the development and production of low-cost 3D printed prosthesis for up to 20 children. Rodrigo was the first child to receive a 3D printed prosthesis under this project.

But then came Eduardo, a 3-year-old Portuguese boy who got a 3D printing prosthetic hand from Patient Innovation - and immediately became one of our heroes :)

More data, more research and new articles

As Patient Innovation is getting more solutions everyday, we are able to get more data about innovative patients and caregivers. The data also feeds our own research, and the research of many, that are writing papers and master/doctoral thesis on the phenomena of patient innovation. Recently two new articles were published on the topic:

Peer Adoption and Development of Health Innovations by Patients: National Representative Study of 6204 Citizens. Oliveira P, Zejnilovic L, Azevedo S, Rodrigues AM, Canhão H. J Med Internet Res. 2019 March 26;21(3):e11726. doi: 10.2196/11726.

4th Patient Innovation awards coming soon

The Patient Innovation Awards will be back for the 4th edition.

And we are especially excited about this new edition because we will have a new category: the Patient Innovation Entrepreneur award!

Stay tuned, as we will have more news on this topic very soon.

But in the meantime, if you want to get a shot at being one of these winners, it’s very simple: just register at the Patient Innovation platform and tell the story about the solution you developed to help you overcome a challenge imposed by a disease or health condition. Or, if that’s not the case, you can still apply by registering and telling the story of a solution you created not to help yourself but a loved or someone you know. By doing this, you are automatically applying for the 4th Patient Innovation Awards.

Patient Innovation is a nonprofit organisation with operations in Portugal (Lisbon) and Denmark (Copenhagen).
